The pukeko is a native bird of New
Zealand. It lives in groups of 3-12 individuals.
Pukeko have beautiful blue and purple plumage with red legs and
a bright red beak. It is known as a swamp hen and can fly reasonably
well. Pukeko make a beautiful trophy mount with their deep, rich
colors. It is reasonably challenging to get close enough to hunt
them, but well worth the effort.
All hunters
will need to purchase a Fish & Game Bird Hunting License prior
to any hunting activities and must abide by all applicable Fish
