My Quest of a lifetime was to hunt a ‘Wild New Zealand
Stag.’ The breathtaking scenery from Christchurch to our
accommodation had my family busy with photos. My wife and
4 yr old daughter accompanied me and were well cared for
with lots of activities, including pony rides. The river
flats and valley gorges with its steep sides that seemed
almost to touch the skies was one of nature masterpiece

On the second day late in the afternoon my Quest was
answered with a spectacular Wild Red Stag like nothing
I’d seen before scoring a whopping 293 4/8 SCI. I was
over the moon and thrilled at my success. I highly recommend
Wilderness Quest New Zealand. 1st class hunting, 5 star
accommodation, meals and service – DO IT!
My husband, daughter and self have had a wonderful 4
day adventure. Hubby takes a ram, turkey and monster red

My wife and I have just completed a wonderful stay with
Jonathan Christian at the lodge on the Haupiri Valley. This
has been a perfect visit, unbelievable weather every day,
and a very successful hunt. My days with Jonathan as my
guide have resulted in both a huge trophy Red Stag from

as well as a very good Wild Red Stag. I’ve also been
lucky with a good Fallow Deer and three wild turkeys.
Quite a haul I’ll be taking back to Virginia.
The lodge is very comfortable with all the amenities
for a couple as well as a hunting party. Jonathan made
sure we have everything we need as well as preparing and
serving fine meals. The weather has been perfect, with
warm, sunny days and cool nights. We’ve very much enjoyed
our stay. Would love to return for another visit. The
lodge is situated overlooking a beautiful, clear river,
with views and pastures and mountains, the perfect environment
for my New Zealand hunt and also for a nature visit for
my wife to enjoy. Come stay with Jonathan. You will be

| It was March 29th 2008; I was at the annual banquet
for S.C.I. in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. I began bidding
on a hunt for wild stag with Wilderness Quest New Zealand.
Well it turned out I was successful, I thought the hunt

2008 only. Well my decision was easy, I’m going! The
plans were made fast and on 5.29.08 me and a friend Mike
Grimm were on a plane bound for New Zealand.
We were met at the airport in Christchurch NZ by our
outfitter Jonathan Christian of Wilderness Quest New Zealand
and preceded to our hunting camp on the west coast of
the island. The camp had all the comforts of home. It
was a new log cabin, with everything you could ask for
in a 5 star resort.
The next day it rained in buckets, but we were hunting
in a rainforest. Well I guess the stags didn’t like the
rain either. Day two was great! The sun come out and so
did my stag a 14 pointer with Heavy main beams. He scored
262 SCI!
Day three was a relaxing day around camp. The next day
we met up with Kent Kaiser of New Zealand Quest for a
try at tahr in the mountains about 3 hours south of our
base camp. We met Kent and a helicopter pilot who flew
us into the mountains. In less than one hour, I harvested
a great tahr, 12’’ horns with 9” bases. This hunt was
one of my shortest and most exciting hunts ever.
Everything on this hunt was more than I expected, since
the guys at Wilderness Quest NZ had to fit me it. Great
hunt, Great country.

Our time spent with Jonathan was fantastic! The food
and company was great. We have many great memories of this
hunt and country. The scenery and setting of this valley
was more than we anticipated. Took great trophies, red stag,
paradise duck, black swan, pukeko, trout and an eel that
Mary caught......

Hi Jonathan,
I wanted to drop you a note to thank you for the attention
to detail that you, have displayed and the truly outstanding
effort that you gave to our entire trip. I have travelled
and hunted throughout the world and have been on excess
of 50 guided hunting trips and the time we spent with
you was in the top five all time. The wild stag hunting
was superb and we were very pleased with the two stags
we took in the 270 -290 class. The tahr hunting was very
exciting and resulted in two great bull tahr and an absolutely
breathtaking helicopter adventure. I have never had so
much fun hunting birds than I did on our successful day
of hunting black swan, paradise ducks and pukeko. They
will make a fine addition to our trophy room.
Our excursion to Abel Tasman Park showed us magnificent
scenery and great lobstering. The lobster dinner was the
best I’ve had! Your willingness to go the extra mile to
make sure your hunters and their wives goes beyond all
expectation.
Hopefully we will return and can send others to enjoy
your hospitality and great outdoor adventures. We wish

Three action-packed days full of ram, red stag, duck,
swan and pukeko hunting. Jonathan and Zion were fantastic

Hunted red stag, black swan, pukeko, paradise ducks!
Had a wonderful time! Jonathan a great guide and host. Enjoyed

Fantastic lodge on river! Great food, very nice place
and fantastic animals. Zoltan took a big red stag and fallow
buck. Had a great time hunting with Jonathan and Marianna’s
